Your final course grade is a weighted average of your current grade and your final exam score. To find the score you need on the exam, rearrange the weighted average formula:
Required Final Exam Score = (Desired Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Exam Weight)) ÷ Exam Weight
Example: Your current grade is 78%, the final exam is worth 30% of your grade, and you want a 80% (B).
Required = (80 − 78 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = (80 − 54.6) ÷ 0.30 = 25.4 ÷ 0.30 = 84.7% on the final
